UPDATE Kenzi achieved her JHD (Junior Herding Dog) title which is the second title with the AHBA (American Herding Breed Association). Grendel achieved his HCT (Herding Competency Test) title with the AHBA."
Kenzi hurt her leg recently so we're taking some time off from herding with her, but Grendel as turned one year old and shows a great deal of talent in the field. Watch out sheep The Children I call the dogs in our home "the children". They currently consist of Kodi (a Shiba Inu), Sophie (a Norwegian Buhund), Baxter (a Newfoundland), Kenzi(another Buhund) and Grendel (one of Sophies Buhund puppies). Kodi, the redhead, likes to think of himself as the boss dog. He's quite smart and has a wonderful sense of humor. Sophie, the blonde, is really the boss of the house. She is quite smart as well but doesn't have much of a sense of humor. She's very dedicated to her jobs in life which are chasing squirrels from the yard and having puppies. She's a wonderful mom! Baxter, the brunette, weighs in around 125 lbs. at this point. He really has only two passions in life - they are food and love and he gets plenty of both. Kenzi, the wheaten with the black mask, is a beautiful Buhund, but not much of a showgirl. Give her a field with sheep anyday! And Grendel is a handsome guy that feels equally at home parading on a lead or out in a muddy field. All of our dogs have either gone through or are going through basic obedience classes. We also have a black, shorthaired domestic cat named Iris. She's the queen of the second floor as the dogs have pretty much overrun the first floor. Of course I can't forget the turtles. We have 2 Sulcatta Tortoises that keep eating and growing and eating and growing. It's getting scarey!! UPDATE We had to send Baxter to stay with relatives in Rochester, NY. He and Kodi fought periodically. Neither one would submit to the other for their place in the pack heirarchy. It was a difficult decision but the right one. Baxter is doing great and the household is much calmer now. Sophie had a surviving puppy on June 2, 2005. Her name is Kiva and if you do
an internet search for "Kiva" you'll see just what she's like. She's a keeper! My History I've lived in Montgomery County my whole life-Lansdale, Plymouth Meeting and finally Jeffersonville. I discovered this past Christmas that my family came from Bavaria in the early 1600's to settle in Germantown, PA. I guess we're not too much for moving great distances! I have a variety of life experiences and I'm somewhat proud of it. I've worked as a donut baker, a cafeteria worker, a music salesperson, a vendor (filling vending machines), a grocery store checker, a counter-top maker, a buyer for an art store, an artist and plate-maker for a newspaper, a tailor, a general manager for a retail sales enterprise, a veterinary assistant and finally as a groomer. I've done some other things too. I acted in numerous plays. I was in a band. I've traveled a bit. I went to art school. I've sold a few paintings and photographs. I founded and presided over a not-for-profit arts education organization that is still going strong. I rode my bicycle 250 miles in the Philadelphia to DC AIDS Ride. I’ve worked at the Philadelphia Flower Show for the past 10 years. I went to school for internet programming. I participate in dog shows with the American Rare Breed Association. I breed Norwegian Buhunds (with a lot of help from the rest of the household!). And I’ve skied, water-skied, camped, biked, sailed, parachuted, etc. Grooming has allowed me to utilize my art background and people skills with my love for animals. I've never been happier. I get to meet lots of great people and animals and I get to use my hands and eyes to create. I can honestly say I love grooming animals. My latest endeavors include hosting the 16th Annual Norwegian Buhund Club of America National Specialty on June 4 and 5, 2005. The turnout was small but the food was good and things ran smoothly. Also, 7 Buhunds achieved HCT titles in the herding event which is a great accomplishment.
